Adriana’s Data Collection: What my steps mean

In this Mini Data Collecting project I decided to track the amount of steps I take on a daily basis. The reason I decided to track my steps is because I recently started to become more active, since now staying home and doing nothing is not as exciting and fun as it used to be. At times I felt trapped as if i were a caged animal. But also everyone around me has been telling me I look different, and by different I mean slimmer. Weight has always been an issue in my life but I didn’t really care/pay much attention to it, but now I can see the difference.

On average I take about 8,000 or more steps, this includes the commute to school, walking to different classes, my daily exercise and just other miscellaneous steps. I found that pretty shocking since I always felt as if I barely did any walking since I always try to find an alternative to walking. For example, my job is a 20 minute walk from my house, but 10 minutes by bus, I choose the latter. Since I know myself, I am a lazy person at heart, especially on the weekends so I try my best to just take it easy.

However if a random person were to casually look at my data, I feel as if they’ll say that it’s more towards the weekend that I start to become more active and take more steps. They may even say that the reason i may be so active is because im either at work or just going out a lot. My assumptions would be that over the weekend is when everything happens so naturally i’ll be more active and in the starting of the week im nit as active because im trying to get back into routine and no one really likes the beginning of the week to start off.

Some good educated guesses would be that in the beginning of the week she doesn’t like to do much, she goes out a lot on weekends, and friday’s are the days where she does a lot of stuff. In addition to this it’d be that Tuesdays are the lazy days sort of. The reason as to why these educated guesses can be made is that if you see in the chart below the amount of steps increase once the weekend starts to come and then decreases once the weekend is over starting the cycle all over again. Which isn’t unusual since everyone tries to go out and have some fun and decompress after a long week of school and work. The reason as to why i mentioned tuesday being the lazy day is because of how low my step count was on tuesdays

In the end this project helped me to realize that although it may not seem like much i am constantly active and moving unlike how i was in highschool, since i know in highschool i was much laxier, but also if I continue at this rate I think it may help produce a better lifestyle for me in the future.

Analysis Of an Ad: Adriana Guzman

The speaker of this ad is the rite aid foundation, the try to present themselves as patrons of the community. By using the phrase/word  “our” it shows that they aren’t trying to do this for themselves but for everyone, and that this is a cooperative effort. Also the speaker uses “KidCents” at the bottom of the picture to reinforce that this is for the kids.

In this ad they are trying to convey that by rounding up your purchases, the leftover change from the purchase will pile up and it can help the kids who need it. This is shown by putting a picture of a wheelchair bound child using his imagination to imagine all the possibilities he’d be able to have. One of them would be to travel in the ocean. Therefore they are relying that people will round up there purchase to the goodness in their heart, and that they’ll actually stop and read it before entering the store.

The attended audience is anyone/everyone especially the good samaritans who are always wanting to do some good in the world. This is because it uses the phrase “ Turn small change into fantastic change” which implies even the littlest amount can make a huge difference. Usually when you see/ hear those phrases that a little can go along way people tend to try and help out.

The author uses kid like drawings such as the waves and the sail boat to emphasize that everything is going to help them out. As well as they keep it sweet and simple, “turn small change into fantastic change. Ask to round up your purchases and help kids in our community”. They want you to round your purchases because over time all the change build ups and it can turn into a greater amount that will make a huge difference.

The way that the speaker/author uses ethos logos and pathos to persuade the audience is that they use a picture of a child, the website for the foundation “kidCents”, and the phrase that is slightly larger than the rest of the sentences in the ad. This combination gives the audience the need to want to help because they give them all the facts and evidence needed to make them want to help, as well as that if they really must they can go confirm.

I find that this isn’t an effective ad for many reasons. One of them would be that no one will just randomly stop by the side of a store to read a small advertisement. Another reason is that in reality most people don’t want to round up their purchases because they don’t want to, since they are trying to save money and need to try and help themselves. Plus in this city where everything is expensive many will already be stretched thin already so they really have no money to spare.
