    Parenthesis
Example:On my birthday, March 19th, my boyfriend, who’s 6 ft tall, bought us tickets to go see the concert to watch Megan thee Stallion perform.
Analysis: This is a example of parenthesis because it shows the use of commas where it helps my sentence stand out and be more specific without ending it.
Example: The detective was sent to investigate this homicide case, where a woman was killed, and stabbed.
Analysis: This is a example of parenthesis because it adds important information.
    Apostrophe
Example: Maria, beware! There’s a man out there kidnapping kids in town.
Analysis: It is telling her to be careful in a more effective way.
Example: She’s dangerous! She likes to bully other kids and harm others with objects.
Analysis: It’s very effective where it’s not addressing who she is for being dangerous even though it explains her actions.

  2. Chris Carbuccia

    Parenthesis
Example 1: My little cousin (9 years old) got into a fight yesterday and got suspended from school.
Context and Analysis: In this example I use the parenthesis or “brackets” to include some information. Parentheses are commonly used to provide information briefly without making the sentence too long.
Example 2: I want to buy another reptile and I might get a new snake (hognose snake).
Context and Analysis: In this example I used parenthesis to provide the name of the snake I want to get. The parenthesis is being used to provide quick information without having to start a new sentence.

    Apostrophe
Example 1: Train, please get me to work on time today.
Context and Analysis: In this example I am figuratively talking to a train for a dramatic effect. Apostrophes are used when someone speaks to something that is unreal as if it was actually real.
Example 2: Oh phone, please don’t die on me quick today. I need you.
Context and Analysis: In this example I am asking my phone to not die on me because I am going to need it in the future. My phone is not a living thing but I am talking to it as if it was for a quote on quote “dramatic effect”.

  3. Lised Banegas

Parenthesis- Mary ( 6 years old) is my little sister who loves to play with barbies.
Analysis – parenthesis is used to explain something more clear that is not necessarily in the sentence. I have actually used this when I was writing an essay in high school and I had to explain everything about my family. I was talking about my little sister and I wanted to add her age so they can know a little more about her.

Parenthesis # 2- World war 2 (1939-1945) left United States as winners.
Analysis- this can be used in history class when you are talking about world war 2 in an essay and want to write when it started and when it ended. I placed parenthesis on the date to explain when ww2 began and ended so they can have a better understanding of it.

    Apostrophe- Rain,go away!
Analysis- this is an apostrophe because I’m talking to “rain” as if it was a person that can hear me. This can be used when you walk outside and you see that it’s raining and you have no umbrella. You say “rain go away” as if it can hear you and it would actually go away.

Apostrophe #2- (hits pinky toe on chair ) “stupid chair!”
Analysis #2- I have used this when I was at home and I was walking barefoot and hit my pink toe into a chair. I screamed, and jumped grabbing my foot yelling “stupid chair “ because it really hurt. My parents just stared at me. This is apostrophe because I’m using “!” And because I’m acting as if the chair was a person and blaming it.

  4. Natalie Cepeda

    Parenthesis
Example1- “On the last day of love my heart cracked inside my body”, (The Sun And Her Flowers, 13)
Context: This example is a quote from a book. Then in parenthesis where I found this quote.
Analysis: This is an example of parenthesis because I included the parenthesis to show the reader where I had found my quote instead of them wondering where I got this from I explained where its from in parenthesis.

Example2- Jane ( who’s math overall grade is a 94) was upset receiving her low test scores.
Context: Jane is very smart student who as a 94 as her class grade. Then she receives a low test score and it ruins her mood.
Analysis. This is an example of parenthesis because instead of explaining why she is upset, I explained in the parenthesis an important point so the reader can understand why jane may be upset.

    Apostrophe
Example1-Carol said to her phone, ” can you stop doing that” while her phone was glitching.
Context: Carol is telling her phone that isn’t human to stop doing something even if it doesn’t understand her.
Analysis: This is Apostrophe because Carol is addressing her phone that is an object and nonhuman to do something

Example2- *trips on rug* ” This goddamn rug needs to move!”
Context: A person trips on the rug and out of anger says it needs to move as if it were a person
Analysis: This is an example of Apostrophe because the person spoke or referred to a nonhuman thing (the rug) as if it was able to do those actions

  5. Elidhet Hernandez

    Parenthesis:
Example #1: “The new sedan is fast (it goes from zero to 60 in just six seconds).”
Context #1: A new car just came into the market and is seems to be faster than the previous model.
Analysis #1: In the first sentence, the statement, The new sedan is fast, does not end with a period. Instead, you place the period after the parenthetical sentence (as well as the final parenthesis), “it goes from zero to 60 in just six seconds.” The aside text adds texture to the sentence.

Example #2: “Banging the wall and screaming ( unrestrained by his father, I might add), Sam was acting like a brat.”
Context #2: A young boy wants a toy but his father says no and obviously the boy doesn’t seem to understand the term no, thus throws a tantrum by hitting the wall, screaming and crying.
Analysis #2: In the preceding sentence, no comma appears before the parentheses. A comma follows the parentheses because if the parenthetical comment is removed, the rest of the sentence would require a comma: Banging the wall and screaming, Sam was acting like a brat.
    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
    Apostrophe:
Example #1- “O, Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?”
Context #1- The Balcony scene from William Shakespeare’s play “Romeo And Juliet”.
Analysis #1- In Act II, Scene II of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet’s famous line is an apostrophe. This is because, although Romeo is a living person and is hiding in her yard and listening to her, Juliet thinks she is addressing someone who’s not present. The audience can tell that she thinks she is all by herself and just thinking out loud about Romeo.

Example #2- “Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
like a diamond in the sky.
    Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.”
Context #2- Nursery Rhyme for children
Analysis #2- Apostrophe occurs when a character in the story speaks to an object, an idea, or someone who’s dead or nonexistent, as if it has feelings. In this example the Nursery Rhyme creates the image of a chid looking up and talking to a star in the sky. But, the star is an inanimate object which won’t reply back to the child.

Parenthesis 1: That I wanted a hoodie (nike brand) that was yellow.
Context and Analysis: That I went to the mall shopping.
The rhetorical device adds clarification to the reader/ listener letting them know what brand of hoodie I want. If I don’t use Parenthesis my information would be less clear to the audience.

Parenthesis 2:That the first time I ride a bike (I was 9 years old) I fell off.
Context and Analysis: Telling my friends stories of when I was a kid.
The rhetorical device shows the reader/ listener the age which I try to ride a bike which adds more information. Without this rhetorical device the audience would lose out on this little but important information of the age which I try to ride a bike.

Apostrophe 1: Fire in the hold!
Context and Analysis: pirate shooting a cannon
The effect it’s has on the listener it’s grab the attention of the crew to what about to occur. The speaker gain energy and attention. Without the rhetorical device the speaker lose the energy and the audiences attention.
    Apostrophe 2: THIS IS SPARTA!.
Context and Analysis: leonidas last words before killing a messager who threaten his kingdom.
The rhetorical device adds to the meaning energy and sense of honor. The effect it had on the listener it’s built confidence and increase the tension. The speaker gains power in authority in the conversation. Without the rhetorical device the speech would not be as powerful or as entreating without it.

Example #2: Did you leave your bag (red, black handles) in the classroom?
Context & Analysis: This is what you can hear while you were in highschool our middle school when going to your next class. I’m asking if you left your bag. Context: In this example of parenthesis I speak in the context of a major league baseball game during the world series of this year.
Analysis: This is an example of parenthesis because I make a statement or state a fact but instead of giving specifics in the sentence I use parenthesis to state it afterword. In the parenthesis it’s not just a specific detail but it’s almost like the summary of the whole sentences, saying the astros lost.

Apostrophe #1: Oh hair, won’t you stop being so annoying.
Context: In the context of this Apostrophe I use my hair and this can definitely be used on days when it’s humid out because my hair gets frizzy or just on bad hair days.
Analysis: This is an example of apostrophe because although my hair can’t talk, it acts in its own way. Me telling my hair to stop being annoying wont help because it’s not actually going to listen. This rhetoric is only being used to make a point that my hair doesn’t look good that day or that it’s a mess/ not cooperating.

Apostrophe #2: Please pen don’t run out, I need you right now.
Context: This can/is used in the context of school or any work. Me telling a pen not to run out of ink is usually something that happens to me in school or when I’m writing an important paper or on exams.
