    Allusion Example 1: This place is like the garden of eden.
    Analysis: This “alludes” or depicts to a biblical term of the paradise god made for Adam and eve, ultimately comparing the place to be a godly paradise.
    Allusion Example 2: You are a Solomon when it comes to making decisions.
    Analysis: While this is another biblical allusion, this refers the story where god blesses Solom with wisdom. Claiming that this person makes wise and smart decisions, like Solomon.

    Allusion Example #1: Wow, I can’t believe you risked your life to save that dog. You’re a good samaritan!
    Context and Analysis: In this example the person is describing the other person as a good samaritan. This is a reference to the bible and its being used here to show the importance of that person, it’s like a “metaphor” but in this case just a few words.

    Allusion Example #2: You seem stressed bro, you need to relax and stop trying to carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Focus on you, prioritize yourself man.
    Context and Analysis: In this example we see how someone realizes that his friend his stress and he tells him to stop “trying to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders”. This is like an indirect reference because he didn’t say it specifically, he gave it to him in the form of a metaphor.

    ALLUSION
    EXAMPLE 1: You’re acting like Peter Griffin.
    CONTEXT: Can be used when someone is trying to be funny but sounds stupid
    ANALYSIS: Peter Griffin is from family guy and is known to crack jokes while acting stupid or going overboard with the joke. So to show them how stupid they’re being, you refer them to someone that act the same way they’re acting.

    EXAMPLE 2: That dog is the devil.
    CONTEXT: Used when a dog is really mean/mean-looking
    ANALYSIS: The devil had bad connotations to it, considering it’s evil. It’s used to describe the dog’s mean attitude. It can be due to its looks, if it growls a lot, or if it attacks you constantly.

    Example #1: “You’re such an Einstein.”
    Context: The word (name) is used when someone is very smart.
    Analysis: Albert Einstein was very smart and his best ideas came aimlessly so calling someone an Einstein means they are as smart as Albert Einstein.

    Example #2: “Food is my Kryptonite.”
    Context: Kryptonite was Superman’s weakness.
    Analysis: For me, food is my weakness, it can calm me down at any time so I referenced Kryptonite from Superman to indicate that food is my weakness.

    Allusion- things may get difficult for you but you have to just keep swimming.
    Analysis – this is an allusion because I am referencing the movie “Finding Dory” and her quote “just keep swimming” This can be used when you want to give advice to someone that is going through some hard times. Your telling them to keep moving forward and not stop.

    Allusion#2- Your such a grinch.
    Analysis #2- This is referencing “The Grinch” and this can be used when someone is always in a bad mood or doesn’t want to do anything.

    Allusion
    Example 1: “Thanks, Romeo,”
    Context 1: When a guy does a romantic gesture like giving her flowers or something else to either wife or girlfriend might say this as a thanks.
    Analysis 1: A woman might say to her husband “Thanks, Romeo,” after he’s offered some type of romantic gesture. Traditionally, Romeo (from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet) is looked upon as one of the most romantic fictional characters in history. In this example, the wife would have succeeded in telling her husband he’s wonderful, simply by alluding to this fictional romantic man.

    Example 2: “Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter
    And my daddy said, “Stay away from Juliet.”
    Context 2: Taylor Swift’s song “Love Story”
    Analysis 2: While the song itself is a more direct reference to the love story of Romeo and Juliet, the example of allusion here is actually “a scarlet letter.” Swift references Nathaniel Hawthorne’s text, The Scarlet Letter. She uses this allusion to imply that the speaker in this excerpt, “I”, was somehow off-limits or “taboo.”

    Allusion #1: “You’ve been dressing like a bum.”
    Context & Analysis: My grandmother usually says this to me whenever I’m wearing sweats because they have a ‘messier’ look to them. When you think of “bummy” clothes you think of oversized, worn down clothing.

    Allusion #2: “Well aren’t you Prince Charming?”
    Context & Analysis: Whenever someone meets guy who’s pretty much “perfect” and is charming, they could refer to him as Prince Charming. Prince Charming is an idealized man some people dream of as a future spouse. He has all the appeals one wants

    Allusion:
    Ex 1: “That man is as strong as Hercules”
    Analysis: Hercules is considered to be in Greek Mythology to be a very strong man who can perform various types of duties which involve massive amounts of strength. So when you describe someone as “Hercules” or to have his strength this is a Mythological Allusion to say how strong the person is.

    Ex 2: “Who dropped the atomic bomb in the bathroom? It smells disgusting!”
    Analysis: The atomic bomb refers back WWll when the United States introduced the Atomic bomb to the world. The bomb was extremely devastating to many people. So when “atomic bomb” was used in this sentence is emphasizing how strong and bad of a smell there was in the bathroom. Using the “Atomic Bomb” is a Historical Allusion

    Allusion Example 1: Don’t act like one of those street boys in front of my daughter please. Thank you!
    Analysis: He’s referring street boys to boys who stay outside all day causing trouble and would deal drugs and etc. They refer to them as having no home training. So in this example, he is saying to clean himself up the right way and act right in front of his daughter.
    Allusion Example 2: Damn, you really remind me of a frog, you need to sit down and stop jumping everywhere!
    Analysis: Here, it refers to a frog because the jump/ hop everywhere. They’re very active. The person is telling the kid he needs to sit down and relax.

    Saying “You like the Mona Lisa” to someone’s graduation picture.

    This response could be expressing how the graduate looked like the Mona Lisa. In the famous painting her smile was expressionless. The allusion references the girls facial expression or smile to the Mona Lisa.

    Allusion Ex #2

    “Don’t bite the apple, Eve.” ~ Jay-Z

    This was a reference artist Jay-Z made to Adam And Eve from the Bible’s first chapter about the creation of the world. This allusion was used in the popular song Empire State of Mind. It’s meaning could be don’t fall for something, or follow suite.

    Example 1: “You’re acting like my mother right now”
    Context & Analysis: Someone has done something that reminds you of your mother. You are referencing this behavior to something your mom would do

    Example 2: “This place is like hell”
    Context & Analysis: You hate a certain place that you’re currently at so you say this to your friend. You are referencing hell to “this place”

    Example 1: Candy is like my Achilles heel
    Analysis: The term Achilles heel is actually used to point out somebodies weakness. This is related to the Greek warrior Achilles who was protected all over except for the heel of his foot which eventually was the cause of his death, taking an arrow to the heel of his foot. This example shows that Candy is their weakness and its hard for them to turn it down when offered.

    Example 2: This dude has a spartan workout routine
    Analysis: Spartans are known for their military power and how hard they always trained since they were the best warriors of their time. This example shows that this person has a crazy workout routine similar to how a spartan would workout.

    Allusion is an “implied” or indirect reference.

    Allusion example #1: This man acts like such a narcissist.
    Context: Although the man isn’t a narcissist hes showing characteristics of one, thus her implying that he is acting like one.

    Allusion Example #2: “You don’t have to be Albert Einstein to understand poetry”
    Context: Albert Einstein is an extremely intelligent man, but the statement is stating that you don’t have to be his level of intelligence to understand poetry, thus the reference of Albert Einstein.

    Allusion #1: That girl is like a brick wall, because nothing gets past her.
    Context: In this sentence I’m using softball as a setting because I tried to refer this to a girl making every play and catching every ball coming her way.
    Analysis: In this sentence as an allusion, I used a brick wall because since nothing gets past her, a brick wall also blocks everything. I tried to describe this girl by referencing something else more exaggerating to make the statement of her blocking/catching every ball more obvious.

    Allusion #2: My brother lies to me so much, his nose should look like pinocchio’s.
    Context: In this sentence I try making the statement of my brother being liar, but I reference it to a famous character/movie, Pinocchio. Where Pinocchio is a liar, but every time he lies his nose grows longer and longer.
    Analysis: In this example I compared my brother to this famous character Pinocchio because they’re both known as liars. Also I state my brothers nose should be as big as Pinocchio because of all the lying he does and it is known that Pinocchio nose grows after every lie. I tried to make the statement more obvious and clear.

    Ex1: you’re acting like a fool
    Context & analysis
    That mike was doing something dumb to be funny.
    That someone might use this to let mike know that his actions are not funny but make him look like a fool.
    Ex2: you’re as fast as a cheetah
    Context & analysis
    That some one broke Usain bolt track record.
    That a person might respond like this because a cheetah is a really fast animal that is known for it high speed mobility. Which most animals can’t match .

    Allusion #1: “Don’t be such a grinch”
    Analysis/ Context: During Christmas time my family annoys me and tells me this because I can be in a bad mood sometimes. This would be used when telling someone that they are always in a bad mood and they aren’t trying to have fun. It’s like telling them to turn their attitude around because their acting like the Grinch.

    Allusion #2: “She was almost as pretty as Aphrodite”
    Analysis/ Context: I just made this up. This is used when pointing out someones beauty because it compares them to the goddess Aphrodite. In Greek mythology she was the goddess associated with love, beauty, passion ect.

    explanation: this sentence is stating that Sam is like the character from the Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet”, which is allusion.

    Example 2: Érica is so wealthy, but she gives most of her money to charity. What a Good Samaritan!
    Explanation: this sentence alludes the fact that Érica is compared to as the Bible story of the Good Samaritan

    explanation: this sentence is stating that Sam is like the character from the Shakespeare play “Romeo and Juliet”, which is allusion.

    Allusion Ex.1: “Don’t act like a Scrooge!”

    Analysis/Context: My mother says this to me around christmas time when I’m not in the mood to be in the Christmas spirit. One year, I didn’t feel like helping decorate the Christmas tree, so she said this to me. Ebenezer Scrooge is known for being a miserable man that hates Christmas. Therefore, my mother references Scrooge, when I don’t participate in a Christmas activity because Scrooge would not want to either.

    Allusion Ex.2: “He studies all the time and is a regular Einstein!”

    Analysis/Context: A teacher stated this to a parent to let them know how their son is doing in their class. Albert Einstein is known for being a very intelligent man. The teacher compares him to Einstein to emphasize how bright the student is.

    Example #1: You’re being such a Debby downer.
    Analysis/context: you rarely hear the term Debby downer now a days, but when you do it’s usually from people who watch old movies or from the south. This is used when someone is bringing the whole atmosphere around them down and their family/friends want them to turn that around. Since it’s not okay to be like that at the moment

    Example #2: A single grain of rice can tip the scale – one man may be the difference between victory and defeat. [Cut to an image of Mulan picking up a single grain of rice with her chopsticks.]
    Analysis/context: This is from the Disney movie Mulan. They used this to show how that whoever is playing with the rice can be the difference between victory and defeat.

    Allusion 1: “I’m the new Sinatra, since I made it here I can make it anywhere” – Jay Z
    Context: In this lyrics from Empire State of Mind, Jay Z see’s himself as very successful, so he compares himself to a very influential music artist.
    Analysis: This is an allusion because he’s making a statement about himself indirectly but making a reference to someone highly known.

    Allusion 2: I have so many pets, I’m just going to start calling myself old McDonald.
    Context: In this example I’m thinking of how many pets i have and how old McDonald has a farm with many animals, so that makes me feel like this.
    Analysis: This is an example of allusion because I’m referring myself to old McDonald which is a very common elementary school song.

    Ex 1 : I didn’t have any bus fare, but fortunately some good Samaritan helped me out!
    Analysis: This is an allusion to the Biblical story of the good Samaritan, from Luke 10:29-37 – a good Samaritan is someone who helps others in need, just as the Samaritan does in the story.
    Ex 2 : Don’t be a Scrooge!
    Analysis: When people say don’t be a scrooge that refers to a Christmas Carol By Charles Dickens. The meaning of this allusion is scrooge is not a nice or happy person so when people say this they think your in a bad mood.

    Allusion example#1: “You’re acting like such a scrooge!”

    Context&Analysis: This example of allusion is trying to relate to the Christmas carol saying that the person is acting like a downer and unhappy just like the character scrooge.

    Allusion Example #2: “When the volcano erupted, the nearby forest was swallowed up in dust and ash like Jonah”

    Context&Analysis: This sentence is comparing the swallowing of the forest to the time when Jonah got swallowed by the wale.
